Again, great service, reasonable portions, yummy food! Took the owner's advice and ordered the Beef Yakiniku bento box for lunch on May 7. Came with miso soup, which actually had some substance to it, 2 spring rolls, white rice and plenty of shredded beef. However, there was a small portion of a pickled carrot mix I saved for "dessert," and I could have eaten a TON of this. Next time I'm going to ask for extra because I think it would have been amazing eating with the meat. I'm a heavy tipper for good service and still got through the drive thru for $13 with tax & tip.
Very yummy! I got the beef YakiUdon and my boyfriend got the chicken Katsu bento box. We will definitely be back!
BamBoo has become, hands down, my husband's and my favorite restaurant in Ogden, if not in all of Utah. The ambiance is not fancy, but the service is always excellent, and the food is consistently spot on with flavor and preparation. For those who are looking for authentic but familiar sounding Japanese dishes, the chicken teriyaki bento box and the selection of ramen would certainly not disappoint. And the gyoza are, hands down, the best in town; they have the traditional light, thin skins that are unique to Japanese cuisine, and come with an elegantly flavored dipping sauce with just the right amount of savory. For those looking for traditional fare seldom found elsewhere, there are occasionally specials such as monkfish liver or shabu shabu. They're not always available, but if you're lucky enough to go in when they are, and you're daring enough to try them, the flavors are out of this world. Also worth mentioning are the mussels and the rice krispy tuna. They're a staple on the menu, and we've never tried anything like them anywhere else in the state. The mussels are served warm, and have a buttery, umami texture topped with the subtle crunch of roe that is as delicate as it is delicious. The tuna, on the other hand, is crunchy, savory, and refreshing, particularly on a hot day. We go here at least once a month, if not more frequently (occasionally twice a day, shhhhhh!), because this is hands down our favorite Japanese cuisine in the state. Sure, it's in a tiny nonchalant location sharing a parking lot with a gas station. And certainly, its a hidden gem far from any trendy spots in the city. Frankly, we'd have it no other way.
From the unassuming outside I was thinking that this place was gonna be a bust, maybe even just basic plain Japanese food, that's been Americanized. Even when you walk in it reminds more retro dinner with quick service food than Japanese food. I am glad I stayed. I had gyoza, jasmine tea and pork ramen. Everything was fantastic, the waitress was attentive, kind and continually checked on my party. They goyza was just great and the authentic broths and ramen was awesome. When I go back I'll ask for some more bean sprouts but everything was great. I also like that they have not fully tagged on with the random hot pastes and sauces that have become a mainstay of many ramen places. I will definitely go back.
I loved this place and the people who ran it. The food was so good but all of a sudden they are gone! I am so sad
